I Know, it’s Christmas Eve ish. I’ll keep it short
This is the very first spriteskeeper spin cycle I have ever done. We were asked to choose five blogs that made us smile and told we would then be given one in which to write a lover letter of sorts. I am happy to say, I got Maureen at IslandRoar.
Dear Maureen:
As the year comes to a close, I just want to say thank you and boy am I glad I found you. As single mothers, we have the misfortune of being members of a club neither of us wanted to join. For a long time, I felt like I was the only member of that club to ever show up for pinochle night or any other type of group activity. I knew there were others at the clubhouse, milling around, whining about their shitty alimony payments but you stuck out because your outlook on life is both healthy and inspirational.
Being a single parent isn’t all that I am but it is a big piece and from the moment I read your blog, I felt a real kinship. There have been times when I’ve read a post of yours and wanted to yell out, “Right?!!! I know!!! That is so true!!!” , but I didn’t. I didn’t because I have neighbors who already think I’m destined to live out my life in an institution and often my kid is sleeping and nothing is worth doing that would result in her waking up and asking me, “can we color now?
I hope you understand.
Anyway, it’s Christmas Eve tomorrow and, my gentile friend, I’m sure you are very busy with your preparations so let me end this by saying: You are an amazing woman Maureen and Happy New Year my friend. 2010 is gonna be a good one, I can feel it.

Oh, but isn’t motherhood a wonderful club!
That blog truly provides a great read, as does yours Ms. Jessica. Have a happy one!
That is a great letter! You have such a great heart.
Awwwww! I love reading Maureen’s blog, too. And I’m glad I ‘found’ your blog in the recent months… you ROCK!
What a nice letter to a very nice blogger. Have a great day Jessica.
Here! Here! I absolutely LOVE Maureen. Great spin…
2010 IS going to be a good one.
Jessica, I can’t believe you got me for this Spin! Thank you! And yay! On Christmas Eve too; nice touch.
Your blog makes me laugh and smile, and all I can say is: Right Back At You, my friend! Here’s a great big bloggy High 5. And many hugs.
Ah, all I need is a big glass of milk to go with this sweet Spin! Every word is true. She is an amazing writer, so it’s a perfect pairing for the two of you! You’re linked, Jessica!
I feel it too. 2010 is going to be good. Big shits poppin’ and little shits stoppin’.
“Can we color now?” Oh man, that’s too cute.
Take care, lady. Happy Holidays.
I am going on her site right now. Thanks, Jessica. Why didn’t Walmart give you a $1,000 gift card like it did all those others on the TODAY Show today? Oh, yeah, you have to be part of a military family in order to be rewarded for suffering by a company that treats most of its employees like crap. Well, if I had a $1,000, I’d put it in your Hannukah stocking, Jessica!
Aw, that was sweet. I’m going to go check Ms. Island Roar out. Cuz I’m all about spreading the holiday cheer by commenting. I’d deliver booze, but y’all are too far away.
That was a very nice letter. Really though, I just dropped by to say Merry Christmas because I said would. I love reading your blog and I think you and your daughter make a very nice family. Sort of a Goodbye Girl vibe. Except much less needy . . .
On that note: Merry Christmas to you and Phoebe!!
Jessica, do not go gently into that night , for no one picked the King of New York Hacks !! What am I chop liver !! HaHaHa Have a great new year !!
Aw… now that is a great letter! Hope you’re having a good time whatever you’re doing.
You know what, Jessica? I feel the same way! We love Maureen!
I love Maureen too ; -)
Happy Holidays Jessica; I haven’t been around the interwebs a lot lately. Hope you have been well and all is good this time of year for you.
I’ve never been by before, but why didn’t you Spin earlier? Finding you is like a Christmas present.
I love Maureen, too. I’m glad you had her for your santa.
Happy Holidays (I’m a little late for Merry Christmas, huh?)
What a great pick, one of my new found faves!
Tell me my kids will someday possess the ability to color on their own?!?
Dear Jessica – somehow your blog wasn’t showing up in my google reader, and I have missed out on months of your words of wisdom. Damn.
Well, welcome to spin cycle, and happy new year.
And you’re so right about Maureen’s place and that single mom kinship. It’s good stuff.
